Defensive Driver Discount

If you are a resident of New Mexico, you could save up to 20% on applicable coverages by taking a defensive driving course. One way to take advantage of this discount is through an online defensive driving course offered by either the National Safety Council, or the United Safety Council. Since your time is valuable, you will find this course convenient and flexible to your needs.

In order to receive the discount from GEICO, eligible policyholders will need to follow these two steps:

  1. Provide GEICO with a copy of the course completion certificate:
    • Via fax (214) 452-9000, attention: "Policy Processing" or
    • Mail to: GEICO
      Attn: Region 5 Policy Processing
      P. O. Box 509104
      San Diego, California 92150-9104
    • Be sure to include your policy number on all correspondence. Once the certificate has been processed, you will receive verification of the savings by mail.
  2. Submit all information within 90 days of the course completion in order to have the discount apply from the date the course was completed.

Once GEICO has received the certificate information, we will apply the discount to your policy.

In New Mexico, you may be eligible for this discount if:

  • You are age 50 or older;
  • You are not required to carry a certificate of financial responsibility (SR-22);
  • You have completed and passed a course approved by GEICO and the National Safety Council (NSC) or the United Safety Council (USC).
