LondonYou know that GEICO's the best when it comes to insurance here in the States, but did you know that we can also help keep you covered while you're abroad?

What is Overseas Insurance?

Overseas insurance is insurance for your car, motorcycle, and personal property that is available while you are living or traveling outside of the United States.

We can arrange insurance in more than 200 countries. In addition, we have offices in several countries overseas. Please check this list to view those office locations.

GEICO has provided overseas insurance through its subsidiary, International Insurance Underwriters (IIU) - since 1954. IIU acts as your agent and arranges coverage from high quality overseas insurers who are licensed by the country where you will be living. We make coverage available to government employees, members of the military, tourists, expatriates and third-country nationals, subject to eligibility restrictions that may apply in some countries.

Why do I need Overseas insurance?

Most standard insurance policies written in the US will not cover your vehicles or belongings once you leave the country.

What does an overseas insurance policy cover?

Policies differ by country, but in most countries liability, comprehensive and collision coverage are available. Cars used for business cannot be covered, and rental cars are covered only if your own car is being repaired. Your insurance coverage is for your car only-not someone else's car. To learn more, call us at 1-800-248-4998 from the United States or find a phone number for an agent in your country.

What kind of coverages should I consider?

Many of your stateside policies will not cover you once you leave the country, so you should look for equivalent policies to protect you during your time abroad. Typically this includes motorcycle, auto, and property insurance, all of which we can help you with. Should your coverage needs change while you're abroad, you can make changes to your policy, such as adding a car or new driver, by completing the Online Overseas Service Request form. Or if you need a new policy you can contact us to set one up.
