How GEICO Handles Your Claim

Accidents are stressful, but we don't think settling your insurance claim should be.

GEICO's claim settlement makes the process stress-free. GEICO settles many property damage claims within 48 hours. Simply visit our online claims center to begin. Or, call us at 1-800-841-3000 to start the claims process.

GEICO works directly with you. That means you don't have to track down your insurance agent to file a claim. Our skilled Claims Representatives are available day and night. They will ask you detailed questions about the accident, file the claim, and give you a claim number.

Stress Free Claim Settlement

A property damage claim with no liability dispute is often settled quickly.

If your car can be driven safely, a GEICO Claims Representative will arrange for a Drive-In inspection, usually within 24 hours and provided you have the appropriate coverage on your car (Comprehensive or Collision depending on the facts of the loss.)

If your policy covers rental reimbursement, your Claims Representative will help you arrange for a rental car while your car is being repaired. Our Auto Damage Adjusters inspect the damage and prepare a written estimate. The inspection process averages 20 - 30 minutes.

If your car is not safe to drive, an Auto Damage Adjuster will inspect the car at a location you determine.

If There's A Claim Against You

If someone in the accident claims that you were at fault and claims to have suffered bodily injury or property damage, GEICO will investigate and assess the claims.

If there is a question about which driver is liable for the accident, it will take longer to settle the claim because the dispute over who is at fault must be investigated.

If You Are Sued

Most claims are settled quickly and never result in a lawsuit. If you are sued, notify GEICO immediately. We will arrange for an experienced attorney to defend and advise you. Many lawsuits are settled before they go to trial.

Get a Check For Repairs

Once the accident investigation and inspections are complete, you'll most likely get a check for repairs for your car minus your deductible amount. If you're taking your car to a Guaranteed Repair Shop, you'll get an authorization to have the car repaired.

Guaranteed Repair Shops

Guaranteed Repair Shops (GRS) fix cars quickly and guarantee repairs for as long as you own your car. At a GRS, you can make an appointment to have your car inspected.
