FREDERICKSBURG, Va., August 12, 2008 – GEICO officially opened the doors today to its $28 million data center expansion and invited Stafford County and state officials and GEICO associates to view the nearly 17,000-square-foot facility.
The new data center now serves as the core of GEICO's voice and data operations, providing computer connections and services for GEICO's multitude of offices around the country.
"Because we do so much business over the Internet, we increased the capacity and reliability of our primary data center," said Steve Martz, GEICO assistant vice president of real estate and facilities management.
"We have been extremely pleased with the state-of-the-art technology that is available for us to grow and improve our business," said Tony Nicely, president and CEO of GEICO.
Nicely continued, "This investment strengthens GEICO's long-term commitment to the region. It also enabled us to make improvements at our location and it enhances the entire GEICO campus."
The expansion to the original data center, constructed in 1996, was completed in six months by Holder Construction.
GEICO's Fredericksburg office in Stafford County office serves the Mid-Atlantic Region for auto policyholders and countrywide for homeowners customers, and employs more than 3,000 associates.
