WASHINGTON, D.C., May 7, 2008 - Master Sgt. Alan Cote is the Army recipient of the 2007 GEICO Military Service Award for his work in alcohol and drug abuse prevention. He was presented his award by GEICO CEO Tony Nicely at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on April 28.
Master Sgt. Cote is the Senior Observer Controller Trainer for the 2nd Battle Command Training Group, 2nd BDE, 75th Division, U. S. Army Reserve, in Bristol, R.I. His other duties include tactical operations center instructor and noncommissioned officer of intelligence, operations, training and logistics.
Aside from his duties on base, Master Sgt. Cote is involved in alcohol and drug abuse prevention in his community. He is the commanding officer of the local VFW (Veteran's of Foreign Wars) unit in Smithfield, R.I., and helped organize the Annual Child Safety Day event which focused on alcohol and drug abuse prevention for young men and women. He was also recognized by the Army for his outstanding safety program, as it is considered to be in the top 25 percent of all safety programs Army-wide.
