WASHINGTON, D.C., May 6, 2008 - Petty Officer Brian E. Sullivan is the Navy recipient of the 2007 GEICO Military Service Award for his work in fire safety and fire prevention. He was presented his award by GEICO CEO Tony Nicely at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on April 28, 2008.
Petty Officer Sullivan is the Air Field Facilities Leading Petty Officer at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, Va. He provides direct leadership and mentorship to 60 military personnel and nine civilian employees. Petty Officer Sullivan's division successfully manifested over 14,000 passengers and 3,500 tons of cargo. He also is involved in the command's indoctrination program and Lean Six Sigma process improvement program.
Aside from his duties on base, Petty Officer Sullivan is involved in fire safety and prevention activities in his community. He assists in emergency and fire rescue procedures at Phoebus Fire Company where he responded to 110 automobile accidents, 40 structure fires and 102 EMS calls. Petty Officer Sullivan's professional manner and organizational acumen earned him the prestigious "Firefighter of the Year" award by the city of Hampton, Va., and he also earned the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Award last year.
